Helps kids (10+] mentally rehearse an upcoming surgery in VR, so the hospital feels familiar instead of frightening.
Helps medical students rehearse real clinical encounters, diagnosing a patient's illness and breaking bad news by practicing conversations with an AI-driven virtual patient.
Sophie, Dr. Comulada's daughter, had surgery when she was six. Beforehand, she was anxious and scared. She had a lot of questions that picture books and pre-surgical walkthroughs couldn't answer. This led Dr. Comulada to team up with Dr. Wagner, a pediatric surgeon, to create better ways to help pediatric patients mentally prepare for upcoming medical procedures and surgeries. That same idea (that rehearsal builds confidence) led Drs. Comulada and Wagner to join forces with Ahaana Singh, a UCLA medical student and entrepreneur, and to extend this work to medical education, developing simulations that help medical students prepare for the clinical encounters they will face with real patients.
